K-8 Admissions

To become a member of the GFA Kindergarten-Eighth grade family, please follow these steps:

  1. Visit
    GFA invites you to visit, tour our school and sit in on a class in action. Individual appointments may be made through our school office.
  2. Apply
    Apply for admission and sign a "Release of Academic Records."
  3. Student Visit and Testing
    Schedule a "Student Visit" and have your child spend a day with us. During your child’s day with us academic assessments will be given.
  4. Meet with Staff
    Set up a meeting with Admissions to discuss any questions.
  5. Review
    The Admission Committee will review applications when the applicant's file is complete. An incomplete file (missing report cards, testing, evaluations, etc.) cannot be reviewed. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure all materials have been received by K-8. Accepted applicants will be sent an acceptance packet and registration contract.
  6. Register your Child
    Complete the forms enclosed in the acceptance packet to register your child. Enrollment contracts are distributed in February and must be returned with a non-refundable and non-transferable Registration Fee. Registrants accepted after February 25th will have 5 business days to turn in the completed Registration Application, Tuition Contract, Kavod Code Agreement and Registration Fee.

Priority Guidelines for K-8 Registration/Enrollment

To be eligible for Priority Enrollment Status, parents must complete an Admissions Application and provide a one-time fee of $50 per child.   Each admissions application form will be dated, timed and numbered. At the time of enrollment, these forms will be collated according to the Priority Enrollment Guidelines listed below.

        ____ a. Siblings of currently enrolled students in Transitional-8th grade
        ____ b. Currently enrolled in Baby Play or Shabbat Shalom
____ 2. TBS Member families* not currently enrolled

____ 3. Applicants who are enrolled in pre-K at another synagogue in Sarasota or Manatee County who are moving up to Kindergarten.

____ 4. Members of other synagogues in Sarasota or Manatee County, not currently enrolled. 
____ 5. Previously enrolled students and siblings of previously enrolled students.
____ 6. General Public
 
Please note that Priority Status, does not guarantee acceptance or a specific spot for our Preschool.
 *Beth Sholom members (in good standing) by January 1, 2010 to qualify for Temple Member status.
